Bio
Trinity McHellen (b. 2001) is a composer, arranger, and percussionist raised in San Antonio, Texas, who currently lives in Dallas, Texas. Specializing in media composition, Trinity is a versatile writer of music that spans a wide variety of genres and styles. Her music blends beautiful melodic ideas with influences from European classical works, jazz, Afro-Latin, and contemporary pop music being just some of the many styles shining through.
Trinity graduated with a bachelors degree in music composition from the University of North Texas in 2024, where she had the opportunity to perform with and compose for a wide variety of different ensembles in different genres and styles. She studied with and received mentorship from a multitude of esteemed professionals in the field of composition and arranging, including Drew Schnurr, Grammy nominee Rich DeRosa, and 10 time Emmy award winning Bruce Broughton. As an afro-latin drummer, drum set player, and an orchestral percussionist, she has also received mentorship from Jose Aponte, Stockton Helbing, and the late Christopher Deane. In the fall of 2024 and the spring of 2025, Trinity underwent U.S Army training, and is currently a percussionist in the 395th Army Reserve Band.
Examples of Trinity’s compositions can be heard in a variety of different places, such as in the 2024 short film “The Climb Job”, and in her March 2024 senior recital, which featured a 28 piece studio orchestra performing live cinematic rescores of scenes from the video games Stray, Batman; Arkham Knight, and It Takes Two.
In addition to her composing, Trinity can be seen performing as a percussionist and drummer all over the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex. In her time at the University of North Texas, she was a member of the Latin Jazz Lab band, the Afro-Cuban percussion ensemble, the UNT Steel band, and the UNT Brass Band. Outside of school, she performed as a percussionist with the Dallas Brass Band, and performed with them at the 2023 NABBA competition, and has also performed with the New Life Symphony orchestra as a percussionist. Currently, she can be found , as the conga and afro-latin percussionist with the Cumbia band Yolanda Cruz & the Daydreamers, as well as playing drumset in a variety of different party bands. Outside of DFW, Trinity also performs regularly with the 395th Army Reserve Band.
